About This Game
The Sinking City Download is inspired by the work of H.P. Lovecraft and the Mystery of Cthulhu were created by him, a detective adventure game for PC, PS4 and XONE platforms. The Ukrainian studio Frogwares, known to fans of adventure games, is responsible for the creation of the title thanks to the popular series about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes (notably Sherlock Holmes: Awakening 2006, also based on Lovecraft’s story). The Sinking City game took place in the 1920s in Oakmont, Massachusetts. This place is suffering from a huge flood, the cause of which is certainly not from this world, and the terrified inhabitants are slowly plunged into madness and doubt. The player assumes the role of a private detective and his task will be to resist the mass hysteria and discover the cause of the mysterious phenomenon that has brought the city to the brink of disaster.

In terms of mechanics, The Sinking City Download uses a number of known solutions from the aforementioned Sherlock Holmes series, which makes the gameplay slightly different from typical adventure schemes, focusing mainly on the detective plot. During the game, however, we don’t follow a common path, as all the fun takes place in an open-plan world – the largest ever offered by the players of the Frogwares studio. The game’s plot can therefore develop in a non-linear fashion, and the order of visiting individual locations and discovering relevant tropes depends solely on the player’s actions. Unlike Sherlock Holmes, which has a style characteristic of the late Victorian, The Sinking City is also characterized by a much heavier and darker atmosphere that will surely appeal to all lovers of H.P. Lovecraft prose.

When, last August, Focus Home Interactive announced the transfer of Call of Cthulhu to the Cyanide studio, it seemed that the current developers of the Frogwares team would offer us nothing in the atmosphere of the H.P. Lovecraft novel. However, at the end of last year, the creators of a series of adventure games with Sherlock Holmes revealed graphic concepts of their own production inspired by the work of the famous writer, which led to the assumption that the previous information was only about the name Call of Cthulhu. Now, Frogwares has officially announced the next game, titled The Sinking City Download. Few details have been revealed, but apparently, the creators will return to the solutions presented in the latest installment of the series about the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments.

Once again, typical adventure puzzles will give way to open-world investigations. The entry on the creators’ official website also contained information about the 10th anniversary of the publication of Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, or the first production of Frogwares, which referenced Lovecraft’s works. It’s possible that the game will be released later this year, which would also be hinted at by the presentation of the demo version of The Sinking City for free at the upcoming game developer conference, which kicks off in less than a week in San Francisco. This will not be the only production that the Ukrainian developer will demonstrate there, as players will be able to see the next adventure with Sherlock Holmes in the lead role – Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter, which will debut on May 27 and was announced a few days ago. .
